Basic Blackjack Strategy

The game of blackjack is one of the favorites in any casino. It has been around for a long time so it has that going for it, but it is also one of the most straight forward games in the casino, which means that just about anyone can play and have a chance of winning so long as they know the object of the game. Whether you play online or in an actual casino, Blackjack will always prove to be entertaining. Having a strategy will help you swing the odds in your favor since the house always has the advantage in this game.

Blackjack is a simple game, but if you want any hope of winning you need to know the object of the game. When you play Blackjack you are essentially playing against the banker. Your goal is to put together a hand that is valued as close to 21 without going over as possible. You also want your hand to be closer to 21 than the bankers. Sounds complicated, but when you know the card values it suddenly comes much more straight forward.

In Blackjack you don’t have to worry about the suit of your cards. All cards ranging from two to 10 are worth their face value. Every face card in the deck is worth 10 and an ace can count as one or 11, whichever is more advantageous to the player. A hand that does not have an Ace in it is known as a soft hand. A hand that has an Ace in it is known as a hard hand.

Your strategy should also involve knowing when to stand and knowing when to hit. You should always stand if you have a hand value ranging from 12 to 16 and the dealer has an up card that ranges from two to six. You should stand if your card count is between 17 and 21. You should stand if your hand is valued between 12 and 16 and the dealer has an up card of seven or more. Additionally, you should always plan to split aces and eights, and never split fours, fives, or 10’s. Lastly, your live dealer blackjack strategy should involve doubling down on 11, unless the dealer has an ace or a 10.

These are simple rules that will give you a better chance of winning than if you didn’t apply them. It might take you some time to memorize these strategy rules, but in time they will be second nature and you can apply them without thinking about it. Of course, even with the best strategy there are no guarantees that you are going to win. Blackjack is a game of chance, so sometimes luck will be on your side and sometimes it won’t. If you approach Blackjack as a form of entertainment you will be more likely to enjoy yourself even when you don’t win.
